Rupununi resident charged, remanded for Marijuana possession

[www.inewsguyana.com] – Forbes Edward of Central Rupununi, facing drug trafficking charge was remanded to prison by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.

The 41-year-old defendant pleaded not guilty to the offence which alleged that on June 30 at Tabitinga, Central Rupununi Cross, he had in his possession 24 grammes of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking.

Police Prosecutor Bharat Mangru told the Court that on the day in question; police acting on information went to search for guns and ammunitions, when they saw the defendant and conducted a search on his person.

They found the substance in his right side, back pants pocket in a brown envelope.

Bail was refused on the ground that no special reason was given to the Court and the case was transferred to the Lethem Court for September 1.
