[www.inewsguyana.com] – A husband and his wife are now homeless after fire completely destroyed their home on Friday night (February 28) at Devonshire Castle, Essequibo Coast.

According to owner of the destroyed building, Dhaniram Chattergoon, he and his wife – Gomattie Ramroop – secured the building and left to visit a nearby relative in the village to watch a movie.

He said they spent the night at the relative’s home and it was only the next morning that he received a message that his house was burnt completely. The fisherman said his bed, clothing, furniture and kitchen utensils were all destroyed in the blaze.

Chattergoon believes that the fire was started by one of his ex – lovers, whom he used to live with. He told iNews that the woman had earlier threatened to burn the house, because he had left her to live with another woman.

The woman was arrested by the Police and was subsequently released. Investigations are ongoing.
