[www.inewsguyana.com] – A 37 – year – old man of East Ruimveldt was on Tuesday, April 21 released on 20,000 bail by Magistrate Dylon Bess after he was charged with assaulting the mother of his child.

Mark Solomon pleaded not guilty to the charge which alleged that on April 20 at East Ruimveldt, he unlawfully assaulted Anita Roberts.

The defendant told the court that he was on the road sitting when Roberts came and attempted to take his daughter. Solomon said he refused to give her the child since it was after 18:00 hrs and the child had to go to school the following day. He said that despite his refusal to hand over the child, Roberts continued with her advances.

The defendant told the court that there are several witnesses that can testify to his innocence. However, Roberts told the court that after she asked for her child, she and Soloman had an altercation during which the defendant “chucked” her.

When asked by Magistrate Bess if he has any prior conviction or pending matter, Solomon told the Court that he had a narcotics case pending in the Bartica Magistrate’s Court.

The matter was adjourned to May 4 for commencement of trial.
