One week after allegedly drowning his wife in a canal at Zeelugt, East Bank Essequibo (EBE) after beating her mercilessly, 43-year-old Rudolph Williams is still in hiding.
Commander of Police ‘D’ Division, Stephen Mansell, told INews this morning that investigators have not yet apprehended the suspect but the man-hunt will continue until he is found and in police custody.
Williams, a ‘cane cutter’ from Stewartville, West Coast Demerara, allegedly drowned his 41-year-old reputed wife, Bibi Zabida Khan, called ‘Theresa’, last Thursday
Following the incident police officers had gone to the man’s house to locate the man but to no avail.
According to reports, witnesses confirmed that the couple had been arguing and the man subsequently hit his wife. The on-lookers had threatened to call the authorities and Williams is said to have jumped into a nearby trench pulling his wife with him.
He allegedly drowned the mother of three before escaping on the other side of the trench which is a “bushy area.” Persons in the area said that it was dark at the time of the incident and therefore they could not see what happened after the couple went into the trench.
However, after a while of searching the area they found the woman’s body in the trench.
The dead woman’s mother, Bibi Zalika, had told the media that the couple had been experiencing difficulties but that this turn of events took family and friends by surprise.
The woman said she was unaware as to what problems had been brewing between her daughter and Williams and would have pushed the man to commit such an act.
The distraught mother also revealed that the couple had been in a relationship for over 10 years and that Williams had often threatened her daughter.
“She come and tell me this bai ah threaten she but me ain’t really know why she never tell me… I tell she, she has to live good and she should leave him but she never did…now this happen and my only child gone,” the woman related.
Three children are now motherless because of this heinous act allegedly committed by Williams.
