[Trinidad Express] – Leader of the Jamaat al Muslimeen Yasin Abu Bakr is one of ten persons taken into custody by the police for questioning in the murder of Attorney Dana Seetahal.
At around 12:05a.m on May 4, 2014, Seetahal was assassinated while driving her Volkswagen Touareg SUV near the One Woodbrook Place, Port of Spain, when she was shot multiple times and died at the scene.
At around 6:a.m on Monday, officers from the Western Division, Guard and Emergency Branch, Criminal Gang and Intelligence Unit and Port of Spain Division went to the man’s home at Long Circular Road, Port of Spain, and executed a search warrant for arms and ammunition. Officers also looked for documents.
Abu Bakr was detained along with several other men who were at the house. He was taken to the Port of Spain CID at St Vincent Street. The others are at various police stations around the city. Abu Bakr is expected to be questioned on Monday afternoon by ASP Rampersad of the Homicide Division, regarding the Seetahal case.
Abu-Bakr is also expected to be visited by criminal defence attorney Wayne Sturge. The man’s house was also searched, along with the Jamaat al Muslimeen’s mosque at Mucarapo Street, Port of Spain.
A memo has also gone out to police stations to take certain actions. The Jamaat al Muslimeen group staged a failed coup in Trinidad and Tobago in 1990.
This criminal gives all MUSLIN brothers and sisters a bad name,he is just a common criminal, he should be placed in JAIL.
It is clear that this headline is highlighting the word MUSLIM.

That man Yasin Abu Bakr’s original name was Lennox Philips and has a history of violence and extortion. A snippet from Wikipedia reveals:
In his Eid ul-Fitr message delivered on November 3, 2005 Abu Bakr threatened “war” against Muslims who did not pay zakaat next year. The statement was generally interpreted as a demand that the tax be paid to the Jamaat al Muslimeen. On November 8 Abu Bakr was arrested and charged with three counts of inciting extortion and one for sedition. The Jamaat al Muslimeen headquarters were occupied by the Army on November 10 and Abu Bakr’s office was demolished in a search for weapons and ammunition after metal detectors discovered objects below the building. A high-powered rifle, a hand grenade, walkie talkies and 700 rounds of ammunition were seized.
