Corentyne man charged with murder of friend

[www.inewsguyana.com] – Thirty – seven – year old Rohan Persaud of Crabwood Creek, Corentyne, Berbice has been charged with the murder of his mechanic friend Ganesh Permaul, whose battered body was found on his bridge on September 17.

The father of three appeared at the Springlands Magistrate’s Court on September 22 before Magistrate Rabindranauth Singh, where the court heard that he murdered 29-year-old Permaul also known as Bunjal and Vinod.

The accused was unrepresented and is scheduled to return to court on October 12; the matter is being prosecuted by Police Inspector, Godffery Playter.

Permaul’s battered and lifeless body was found on the bridge of Persaud’s premises. The accused reportedly told investigators that he went out of the house to conduct business, when he saw the man lying on his bridge and immediately summoned the police.

Information reaching iNews revealed that Persaud and Permaul were imbibing alcohol the night before and were subsequently involved in an altercation.

iNews understands that the mechanic was found semi naked with marks of violence about his body and bloodstains on his clothing. Blood patterns indicated that the man may have been dragged out of the yard and onto the bridge after being beaten.

A post mortem examination stated that Permaul died from asphyxiation.
