Brazilians granted $600,000 bail for unlawful possession of firearm, ammo

DSC06168[www.inewsguyana.com] – Brazilian nationals, Joan Dos Santos Oliverra and Mauro Rocha De Andrade who appeared in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday (February 11) to face charges of unlawful possession of firearm and ammunition, were both ordered to lodge bail to the tune of $600,000 by Chief Magistrate PriyaSewnarine-Beharry.

The duo pleaded not guilty to the charges which alleged that on Friday, February 7 at Lethem, they had one .38 revolver with six matching rounds, without being holders of firearm licenses.

Police Prosecutor Michael Grant told the Court that the men are friends and on that the day in question they were going to refuel a vehicle which they had borrowed from a business partner.

Ranks acting on information stopped the vehicle with Oliverra and De Andrade and carried out a search. As a result, the alleged gun and ammunition were found in the bonnet.

They are expected to report to Inspector Alexander every Friday, until March 3 when they will make their second appearance in Court.
