[www.inewsguyana.com]Sport Minister Dr Frank Anthony says that Drug Testing for athletes in sport for the 2013 year was systemic according to their program.

This was revealed during Monday’s sitting of the National Assembly when the Sport Minister responded to questions from A Partnership for National Unity’s Christopher Jones on the Program, its establishment date and the work being done.

According to Dr. Anthony, the Committee which is chaired by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary Alfred King has been conducting advocacy and educational training.

The other members include the Guyana Olympic Association’s Representative Karen Pilgrim, Dr Navindra Rambaran and Ms Alicia Roach from the President Youth Award Program.

Dr. Anthony said that the members were chosen by their various associations.

He indicated that the current hindrances to the frequent testing of athletes revolve around the cost to test before every Association’s National Event.

However, the Minister said that before most athletes leave to represent the country, they are tested.
