Argentina and Trinidad seeking participation in Wartsila 20km

[www.inewsguyana.com]Athletes from Argentina and Trinidad and Tobago have indicated their interest in participating in the recently launched Wartsila 20k Road Run.

This revelation was made by President of the Athletics Association of Guyana, Aubrey Hutson during the launch of the event on Monday, February 10. According to Hutson, they have set the prize monies that high mainly to attract international athletes in an attempt to develop the sport.

He held firm that the event will be managed in the same manner of the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) rules in order to ensure safety and fair competition among athletes.

A total of $3.3 million is up for grabs during the 20km run with some six categories expected. These are the male and female seniors and juniors, women masters age 35 and above, men masters age 40-54, the masters age 55 over 5 km and youths (5 km).

The event, set to start from 6:00hrs, will see the athletes begin in the Paradise community, proceed west along the East Coast Demerara Public Road, and then move to Kitty Public Road.

The athletes will then move into Carifesta Avenue, before turning North into Upper Camp Road before it moves West into Battery Road, Kingston then South into upper Water Street before finishing in front of Wartsila’s Head Office.

Registration ends on the February 26 and athletes will depart Wartsila by 5:00h on race day for transportation to the starting point in Paradise. The event is billed for March 2.
