[www.inewsguyana.com] – A Bamboo Creek resident facing a murder charge was remanded to prison by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry on Monday, May 19.

Robert Luke was not required to plead to the indictable charge, which alleged that on May 12, at Bamboo Creek Settlement, North Pakaraima, Rupununi, he murdered Winey Roberts.

Police Prosecutor, Bharat Mangru told the Court that on the day in question the accused and his brother, Benn Luke were imbibing with Wilkey Peters, when a misunderstanding developed in relation to attending a party. As a result, the two brothers assaulted Peters, who managed to escape.
In retaliation, Peters’ brothers, [Winey Roberts and Glenford Edwin] confronted the Lukes, when the accused took a knife and allegedly stabbed Roberts to his left side chest.

Luke was remanded and the matter was transferred to the Lethem Court for June 2.
