[www.inewsguyana.com] – Manager of the Anjuman Orphanage, New Amsterdam Berbice, Mohamed Dean was today charged for sodomising a minor from the facility.
Dean appeared at the New Asmsterdam Magistrate’s Court and pleaded not guilty to the offence. The Court heard that between January 1 2014 and May 24, 2014 at the Anjuman Orphanage Philadelphia Street New Amsterdam Bebice; he allegedly engaged in sexual activity with a child namely by way of sodomy.
The Court heard that at the time of the allegation, the teenager was 13 years old. The accused was placed on $200,000 bail and is expected to return to the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court on July 14 for statements.
When the incident first came to light earlier this month, the – Owner of the Orphanage Abu Bakkar Mandal denied the allegations.
Mandal had told iNews that the 13 – year – old lived at the Orphanage for over five years and this sudden claim of sexual abuse comes as a shock to everyone there.
He described the teen as a “trouble young man” and accused him of lying, since he was not a resident at the Orphanage during the time he claimed the sexual attack took place.
