[www.inewsguyana.com] – A Truck driver was sentenced to three years imprisonment by city Magistrate Ann McLennan for the offence of causing death by dangerous driving.

Fifty-nine-year-old Winston Felix of Windsor Forest, West Coast Demerara, was found guilty of the offence following a trial. Details of the charge stated that on November 28, 2014 at Agricola Public Road, East Bank Demerara, he drove motor lorry GKK 8663 in a manner dangerous to the public there by causing the death of 62-year-old janitor Fatimah Jamal.

According to the prosecution, on the day in question, Jamal was crossing the street on the pedestrian crossing, whilst Felix was driving the said lorry. Felix admitted that he saw Jamal crossing the road when his right front bumper collided with her.

Felix was placed on $800,000 bail during his trial. Reports indicated that Jamal, of 101 Ceasar Street, Agricola, had just finished her janitorial duties at the Alpha Hotel (opposite Agricola Primary School) and was crossing the road to get home when the accident occurred.

  1. Jail these idiots for long stretches just may get their attention. For some reason these fools do not or cannot understand that if they are late – even if they speed they are still late. Speed thrills and kills. Three years is not enough for a life needlessly taken.
