[www.inewsguyana.com] – A 20 – year – old gold miner, facing two counts of robbery under arms charges, was remanded to prison by Magistrate Judy Latchman on Friday, June 19.

Nico Layne of Lot 59 West Ruimveldt, Georgetown, pleaded not guilty to both charges, one of which alleged that on Wednesday, May 06 at West Ruimveldt, Georgetown, being armed with gun he robbed Shafeek Mohamed of one Digicel Smartphone valued $39,300 and cash $26,000.

It is also alleged that on June 12 at West Ruimveldt, also being armed with a scissors, he robbed Ivor Hartman of one Nokia cellular phone valued $11,000 along with cash $19,400.

While Police prosecutor, Shawn Gonsalves did not reveal the details of the allegations to the Court, he objected to the pretrial liberty of Layne based on the seriousness and prevalence of the offence and that a gun was used during the commission of the alleged crime.

The Court heard that several other matters are presently being investigated at the Ruimveldt and Providence police stations and more charges are likely to be laid against the accused.

As such, bail was refused and the Magistrate ordered that all statements in the case be prepared and ready for June 29.

  1. What sayeth all those who condemn yours truly for raising the issue of increased criminality especially since the new administration got into office? In their defence they mentioned that the administration cannot perform magic as it was just days old. They had ALL the answers when in opposition but now it seems they have no strategy to arrest the increased crime perpetrated on innocent citizens on a daily basis
