19-Y-O fined $75,000 for stealing Samsung Galaxy, US$300 at wake

Court[www.inewsguyana.com] – Nineteen – year – old Junior Sears of Farmer’s Field, Sophia, Georgetown is accused of stealing one Samsung Galaxy cell phone value $90,000 and US$ 300, property of Shawn George.

He made his first Court appearance on Wednesday and  pleaded not guilty to the charge after it was read to him.

In court, the Prosecution explained  the virtual complainant was hosting a wake for his deceased brother, when he left US$300 along with his cellular phone at the bottom flat of the Est Ruimveldt home.

When he returned he found the items missing.

The Prosecution added that the complainant was informed that Sears had stolen his property.

Once accosted by the police, Sears, under a caution statement admitted to stealing the phone but denied ever stealing the US$300.

Sears, who seemed remorseful for his actions, told the Magistrate presiding over his that everyone makes mistakes and explained that he was out of a job at the time when he stole the phone.

Magistrate McLennan told him that she hopes that he has learnt from his actions and advised him to not get involved in such a matter again.

Junior Sears was then fined $75,000.

If he fails to comply, he will then be sentenced to six months in prison.
