[www.inewsguyana.com] – A convicted felon of Lot 177 Triumph, East Coast Demerara, was on Wednesday April 08 sentenced to 24 months imprisonment by Magistrate Fabayo Azore for robbing a tourist from Russia.

Michael White admitted that on March 5, at High Street Georgetown he robbed Vokou Vischesar of a gold chain valued US$500.

He was also charged for the use of personal violence against the tourist.

According to the prosecution, on the day in question around 11:15 hrs, Vischesar was taking photographs while wearing a gold chain when White snatched it. The Court heard that the victim got a view of White’s face after which he received several cuffs  about his body.

The facts of the case state that White attempted to run away but was caught by public spirited citizens who called the police. At the Brickdam police station, a search was carried out on White and the chain was recovered from his mouth. The unrepresented man told the court that he indeed took the chain but did not hit Vischesar.

White informed the court that he only came out of prison last month after spending 30 months in jail for a break and enter offence.
