[www.inewsguyana.com] – A teacher was refused bail by Magistrate Ann McLennan on charges of robbery under arms and discharging a loaded firearm.

Timothy Sampson, 29, of Number 48 Village, Corentyne Berbice, was not required to plead to the indictable charge, which alleged that on August 05 at Number 48 Village, being in the company of others and armed with a gun, he robbed Indranie Singh of $100,000.

Details of the second allegation stated on the same day at Number 48 Village, he unlawfully and maliciously discharged a loaded firearm at several Police ranks in an attempt to evade capture.

The court heard that the defendant was placed on $40,000 station bail and later charged. Police Prosecutor Dinero Jones opposed bail on the grounds of the gravity of the offence. The father of two was remanded to prison and the matter was adjourned to September 11.

  1. UG students in on armed robbery- community service. Police on armed robbery- transfer to another outpost. GDF on armed robbery- mums always the word. Now teacher on armed robbery. We wait for the community service hours.

  2. Teaching is a noble but sometimes thankless profession. Nevertheless, many go into teaching for different reasons but once in, they do leave an indelible impression on young minds. Many who have already left school, after many years still remember their old teachers for different reasons, mostly fond memories and what their teachers stood for.
If one wants to get rich then teaching is not for that person. You have to love children and enjoy watching them learn. This teacher’s action has only brought the teaching profession into disrepute and disgrace.. If the authorities are alert, he would never be allowed to teach in any school, private or state or even give private lessons. He wanted to get rich quick, got caught and must stand the consequences of his disgraceful actions.

  3. THIS TEACHER SHOULD HAVE BEEN IN SCHOOL. BUT REGARDLESS OF THE FACT THAT GRANGER WILL EVENTUALLY RELEASE HIM AND SEND HIM BACK TO SCHOOL,THE MAGISTRATE SHOULD SENTENCE HIM TO A LONG PRISON TERM.
