[www.inewsguyana.com] – A sex worker charged with robbery was remanded to prison by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry on Tuesday, May 06.

Junior Bernard also called ‘Keisha’ pleaded not guilty to the offence that said on April 27 at Georgetown, being in company of others he robbed Intiaz Bacchus of one Blackberry cellular phone valued $70,000 and $10,000 cash.

Police Prosecutor Bharat Mangru, told the Court that on the day in question around 22:00 hrs, the complainant was standing at a Gas Station when the accused came up from behind, hit him and took away his cellular phone. He made good his escape and the matter was reported to the Police.

Attorney – at – Law, Paul Fung – A – Fat alleged that his client was paid a counterfeit $5,000 bill for “services” rendered to Bacchus and held onto the cellular phone until he was paid his money.

The Counsel argued it was no robbery since the defendant took the cellular phone to the Police.

The Prosecutor opposed bail on the seriousness of the offence and the penalty attached. He said it is a likelihood that if granted bail the defendant may not return for his trial.

Bail was refused and the case was transferred before Magistrate Judy Latchman for statements on May 19.
