Sex worker charged, remanded for robbery

[www.inewsguyana.com] – A sex worker of Lot 28 Ann’s Grove, East Coast Demerara was remanded to prison today, Thursday December 19 by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, following a charge of robbery underarms.

Kieron Pereira pleaded not guilty to the charge, which alleged that on December 14 at Kingston, Georgetown, in the company of others armed with a knife, robbed Shazan Mohamed of one Blackberry phone, a shoulder bag and a laptop together at a value of $152,000.

Police Prosecutor, Bharat Mangru told the Court that on the day in question, the Virtual Complainant (VC) was at the Guyana Society for the Blind Institute and left around 21:30 hrs when he was confronted by the defendant and other men, who placed a knife to his neck and relieved him of the said.

The prosecutor objected to bail citing the seriousness and prevalence of the offence. Bail was refused and Pereira will reappear in Court on January 22.
