[www.inewsguyana.com]A 50-year-old inmate of East La Penitence night shelter was today fined $10,000 with an alternative of two weeks imprisonment by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.

Euston Reece pleaded guilty to an assault offense. The particulars of the case states that on Monday, December 16 at Georgetown, he unlawfully assaulted Imran Nandkishore.

Police Prosecutor Bharat Mangru told the Court that both the defendant and the Virtual Complainant (VC) are inmates residing at the night shelter.

Mangru further stated that on the day in question, the victim was in his bed sleeping when the defendant woke him up with a few cuffs to his head, accusing the VC of stealing his radio set.

Reece said that he did not intend to do any harm to Nandkishore; he just pushed him on his head for him to wake up.
