Seven days jail for Plumber who choked girlfriend

[www.inewsguyana.com] – Gavin Damon, a 26 – year – old plumber, was sentenced to seven days imprisonment yesterday, Thursday October 02, by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry for assaulting his girlfriend.

The defendant pleaded guilty to the charge, which stated that on October 01 at Regent Street, Georgetown, he unlawfully assaulted Reshana Kush.

In addition to that, Damon denied using threatening behaviour to Security Guard, Christopher Warrel on the same day at Regent Street.

Police Prosecutor, Michael Grant told the Court that on the day in question around 10:00 hrs, the defendant visited his girlfriend’s workplace to collect a phone and some money when a scuffle ensued after she refused to give him the articles.

The Court heard that during the argument, Damon choked Kush.

Grant added that Warrel, who is the Security Guard at Kush’s workplace, told Damon to leave the woman alone. The two were also engaged in a scuffle after Damon allegedly pulled out a pipe cutter and was about to chop Warrel.

The Prosecutor added that Kush then produced a phone and $3000 and gave it to Damon when he told her he needed $17,000 more.

He continued with the behaviour and a Police Officer who was in the vicinity saw what was happening and intervened. The matter was reported and he was arrested and charge.

As it relates to the threatening behaviour charge against the security guard, Damon was refused bail and the matter stands adjourned to October 7 before Magistrate Dylon Bess.
