[www.inewsguyana.com]Thirty – Eight – year old Michael Mark Wong of Kamaka Stretch, Mabaruma Region One, was remanded to prison by Magistrate Ann McLennan for trafficking narcotics.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge, which alleged that on Sunday, December 15 at Kamaka Stretch, he had in his possession 22 grammes of cannabis.

Police Prosecutor, Dinero Jones told the Court that on the day in question a party of policemen executed a searched in the defendant’s home when the prohibited substance was discovered on a vanity in his bedroom.

Jones noted that at the time, Wong was home alone and allegedly confessed to being the owner of the drugs. The prosecutor objected to the pretrial liberty of the defendant citing the nature and prevalence of the charge.

Magistrate McLennan declared that no special reason was provided for Wong to be granted bail, and the matter was put off until Thursday, December 19 before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.
