Police investigating two separate robberies; one shot, over $18M hauled

[www.inewsguyana.com] – The police are investigating an armed robbery which occurred at about 21:30hrs on Thursday (December 19) at ‘B’ Field, Sophia, during which 38 – year – old Desmond Edwards of ‘C’ Field, Cummings Lodge, East Coast Demerara, was shot and injured to his right foot.

Investigations revealed that Desmond Edwards and two females were passengers in a motor car that had stopped to put off one of the females. At that point two men armed with handguns approached and held them at gun point and took away a total of $720,000.00, a sum of US and Canadian currency, three cell phones and jewellery.

Edwards put up a resistance during the robbery and was shot to his foot by the men who escaped in a waiting motor vehicle. Edwards has been admitted to the GPHC for medical treatment.

Meanwhile, at about 08:30hrs Friday (December 20) 21 – year – old Rajiv Singh, a clerk attached to a city store, was about to enter a Commercial Bank on Avenue of the Republic, Georgetown with a carton box containing $17.2M, when he was held up by two men armed with handguns.

The perpetrators took away the carton box with the money and escaped. Investigations are in progress.
