Miner charged for illegal possession of firearm

[www.inewsguyana.com] – A Miner of Prince Village in Mahdia, was on Monday (December 30) remanded to prison when he appeared before Magistrate Faith McGusty for unlawful possession of firearm on Christmas day (December 25).

Williams Simon pleaded not guilty to the charge which detailed that on Wednesday, December 25 at Mahdia, he had in his possession one 12 gauge single barrel shot gun, without being the holder of firearm license.

Police Prosecutor Seon Blackman informed the Court that on the day in question, two officers saw the defendant passing by the Mahdia Police Station with a salt bag slung across back and acting in a suspicious manner.

He further stated that a search was carried out which revealed that a shot gun was concealed in the bag.

Corporal Blackman successfully objected to bail citing the seriousness of the offence and the penalty attached.

Bail was refused and the matter stands adjourned until January 9.
