Man who allegedly abducted ex-girlfriend granted bail

[www.inewsguyana.com] – A 28 – year-old labourer of Front West, Enmore, East Coast Demerara, was today ordered to post $350,000 bail on an abduction charge.

Mark Bhikhari pleaded not guilty to the offence, particulars of which alleged that on Friday, June 6 at Georgetown, by force he compelled Vashti Sukhdeo to go with him from Water Street, Georgetown, into motor car HC 1851 to the K & VC Hotel.

Police Prosecutor Bharat Mangru told the Court that the defendant and the victim were involved in a relationship for three years.  He said on the day in question the woman was headed to work in Kingston while the defendant was a passenger in ataxi on Water Street.

The Court was told that Bhikhari held on the victim’s hand and forced her into the vehicle to go with him to the above mentioned hotel. Sukhdeo made an attempt to escape but was prevented from doing so, the taxi driver subsequently drove the car to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Eve Leary.

The accused was represented by Attorney – at – Law George Thomas. The lawyer assured the Court that should his client be placed on bail he will make no contact with the virtual complainant (VC) and will report to the Police.
He said his client resides with his parents and has no pending matters or prior convictions.

Bhikhari will report to the subordinate officer in charge at the CID every Friday and will return to Court on July 4.
