Man busted with illegal gun, ammo at Palm Court remanded to Prison

[www.inewsguyana.com]Ashiek Mohamed was today remanded by Chief Priya Sewnarine-Beharry for the unlawful possession of a firearm.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge, which alleged that said on Thursday, December 19 at Palm Court, Main Street, Georgetown he had in his possession nine .4 live rounds of ammunition, without being a holder of a firearm license.

The second allegation stated that on the same day at Palm Court, he also had in his possession one Taurus pistol, without being a holder of a firearm license.

Police Prosecutor, Corporal Bharat Mangru told the Court that on the night in question police at Palm court observed a man acting in a suspicious manner. It was observed that the said man gave the firearm to the defendant. The ranks then approached and apprehended Mohamed, while the other suspicious man escaped.

Bail was refused and the matter stands adjourned until January 15.
