[www.inewsguyana.com]A 28 – year – old labourer’s life was snuffed out Wednesday morning (April, 23) following an accident at the construction site of the new Giftland Office Max Mall at Liliendaal, East Coast Demerara.

iNews (www.inewsguyana.com) was informed by the youth’s cousin Denzil Washington, who also works at the site, that  Jeremy Ames was working in a container when a pile of mirrors came crashing down on him.

Washington in his estimation said it was approximately 500 mirrors measuring 10 x 12 feet, which were to be installed in washrooms and walkways.

He indicated that several other employees rushed to Ames’ assistance but it took time, some 20 minutes he approximated, since they were trying to save other mirrors from breaking and preventing him from being further crushed.

Ames is believed to have suffered injuries to his neck and abdomen; one relative said doctors claimed he had broken ribs.

The man who worked at the site for some three months lay motionless with few bruises to his body at the Woodlands Hospital as relatives gathered in tears.

“He should have really followed his mind because he didn’t want go to work this morning” one relative was heard lamenting.

Meanwhile, iNews (www.inewsguyana.com) was informed that the contractor and proprietor have since sent all employees home for the day following the unfortunate development.
