Guyana’s Chess Coach charged with assault with intent to rob

[www.inewsguyana.com] – Guyana’s National Chess Coach, 25 – year old Wendell Meusa was today placed on $150,000 bail on an assault with intent to rob charge.

Meusa of Guyhoc Park, Georgetown, pleaded not guilty to the offence before Magistrate Judy Latchman. It is alleged that on June 15 at High Street, Georgetown, he unlawfully assaulted Shaleeza Mohamed with intent to rob her.

Police Prosecutor, Joel Ricknauth told the Court that on the day in question, around 18:30hrs both the defendant and the victim were passengers in a bus, when he demanded the driver to stop the vehicle. While making his way out, he allegedly pulled Mohamed’s handbag but she also held onto it.

It is further alleged that he pulled out a cutlass and fired chops towards the victim and in return she kicked him, causing him to fall out of the vehicle.

The Court heard that the woman received minor chop wounds to her head and hand. The matter was reported and the defendant was arrested and charge.

The Prosecutor did not opposed bail and he will return to Court on July 2.
