[] – A man who turned up to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation’s  Emergency and Accident Unit seeking medical treatment for injuries and allegedly  stole clothing from another patient made his first court appearance yesterday before Magistrate Faith McGusty to answer a charge of simple larceny.

It is alleged that the accused, Victor Joseph of Georgetown on October 14, 2015 at the Georgetown Public Hospital Accident and Emergency Unit stole a quantity of clothing the total value of $11,500, the property of Lynette Jageer.

Joseph, in his defence, admitted that he took the bag containing the mentioned items; however he maintains his innocence saying he mistakenly picked up the wrong bag.

The prosecution, explained on the day in question the virtual complainant Jageer was also a patient at the said hospital, when she rested her bag on a bench.

When she turned around she found her bag missing, along with the quantity of clothing inside. The matter was reported to the police there, who then searched the defendant and found the bag on him.

Joseph was denied bail. He will make his next court appearance on October 22.
