The court heard that the Carpenter on November 13, 2015 at the Alpha Hotel, East Coast Demerara, conspired with Hescotte Smith to traffic 848 grams of cocaine.

His lawyer told the court that Adams got himself involved in such a situation because his 10 – year – old son has Leukemia and his treatment is expensive.

The Prosecution informed the court that ranks from the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit acted on information and visited the hotel when they found the men in a room together.

However, prior to entering that room, CANU ranks observed Adams throwing an ice-cream container out of the room. When the container was retrieved by the ranks, they discovered 17 pellets inside, suspected to be cocaine.

Adams subsequently confessed to ranks that he had ingested some 27 pellets of cocaine. Adams and Smith were then cautioned, arrested and taken to a city hospital where an X-ray was done.

The pellets were found in Adams’s system but the other accused was clean. As such, all charges were dropped against Smith, while Adams was jailed for 54 months and ordered to pay a fine of $2,289,600.
