[www.inewsguyana.com] – Raphael Laurie, 24 of Supply, East Bank Demerara, charged four counts of embezzlement was placed on $375,000 bail by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry on Tuesday (February 18).
He pleaded not guilty to the charges; particulars of the first, which stated that on July 5, 2012 at Support, East Bank Demerara, being employed as a clerk at Bacchus Drug Store, he embezzled the sum of $5,446.
The second charge stated that between November 9, 2012 and October, 1 2012, at Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara, he also embezzled the sum of $393, 292 from the same store.
He denied the third allegation, particulars of which stated that on November 28 at Diamond Housing Scheme, he embezzled the sum $14, 320.
He pleaded not guilty to the fourth offence, which alleged that between, November 1, 2011 and March 6, 2012, he embezzled $885, 041.
Police Prosecutor, Michael Grant told the Court that the defendant has a similar pending matter involving the same virtual complainant, before another Court and there are likely to be other charges against him soon.
The Prosecutor did not object to bail and the case was put off to March 3.
