Electrician shot by Soldier friend dies

[www.inewsguyana.com] – Twenty year – old Devon Howell, who was shot to his neck by a Guyana Defence Force (GDF) member, died this morning at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH), after spending just over two weeks in an unconscious state at the institution.

According to the now dead electrician’s sister Nickisha Howell, the shooter is known to her family and was considered a friend of her brother. The family, she told iNews, remains confused over the incident and continues to receive conflicting reports of what transpired.

The woman explained that her brother’s spinal cord was severed after he was shot to his neck but the family remained hopeful that Howell would have recovered.

She said on the dreadful day, November 21, her brother left to go ply his trade. He reportedly stopped in at the friend and they were later called and told he shot himself.

Relatives were later told that the Soldier – Alstair Woolford admitted to investigators that he shot Howell; however, they remain unclear of truly occurred.

The 20 year-old accuser, Woolford was remanded to prison by Magistrate Ann McLennan when he made his Court appearance.

The dead electrician’s family has put all friendly associations aside and insists that the matter be investigated thoroughly and justice be served.
