[www.inewsguyana.com] – A cook and a businesswoman were on Monday refused bail by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry after they appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates Court charged with the possession of 850 grams of marijuana.

David Cole and thirty-seven-year-old Faye Jones (no address given) both pleaded not guilty to the charge which alleged that on Friday, May 22 at McKenzie, Linden, they had in their possession 850 grammes of cannabis-sativa (marijuana) for the purpose of trafficking.

According to the Police Prosecutor Shawn Gonsalves, on the day in question several persons were going to Mahdia via a route 72 bus. Around 15:00hrs the said minibus with 16 passengers was stopped by the police and a search was conducted.

It was noted that all the passengers were ordered to exit the vehicle with their belongings. The duo had a “shiny” bag in their possession and a further search unearthed the illegal substance.

The Chief Magistrate asked that the matter be sent to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for advice and both defendants were remanded to prison, until May 27
