Court[www.inewsguyana.com] – Two men charged with robbery were placed on $100,000 bail each, by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry on Tuesday April 14.

Miner David Alexander, 26, of Lot 66 Hadfield Street, and construction worker Glen Dey, 27, of Lot 284 East Ruimveldt, Georgetown, denied the charge which alleged that on April 10 at Cornhill Street, they robbed Michael Layne of a cellular phone and cash $10,000.

According to the prosecution, on the day in question, Layne was confronted by both defendants, who relieved him of the phone, after which a report was lodged with the police and investigation carried out.

Police Prosecutor Bharat Mangru objected to bail on the grounds of the seriousness and prevalence of the offence. He added that if granted bail the duo will not return for their trial.

The matter was transferred before Magistrate Judy Latchman, on April 27 for statements.
