Businessman placed on $600,000 bail for illegal possession of Gun, Ammo

[www.inewsguyana.com] – A 26 – year – old Businessman of Crane Housing Scheme, West Coast Demerara was today placed on $600,000 bail for the unlawful possession of gun and ammunition.

Before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, Robert Hussain pleaded not guilty to both charges, one of which alleged that on Friday, November 07 at Crane, he had in his possession one .32 revolver without being a holder of a firearm license.

Particulars of the other charge stated that on the same day at Crane, he had in his possession seven live matching rounds. Police Prosecutor Bharat Mangru told the court that on the day in question; police took Minibus GKK 1892 into the station and carried out a search.

The Court heard that at the time, the defendant was the only occupant in the vehicle and during a search on his person; the gun and ammunition were found in his lower pants waist.

The defendant was represented by Attorney – at – Law, Peter Hugh. Bail was granted in the sum of $300,000 for each charge. The matter was adjourned until November 13.
