Bus conductor remanded on Larceny charge

Court[www.inewsguyana.com]– A bus conductor of Lot 43 Princess Street, Georgetown was today refused bail by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry on a larceny from a person charge.

Kevin Washington pleaded not guilty to the charge, which alleged that on March 13 at Regent and Alexander Street, Georgetown he stole one cricket band value $186,000, property of Portia Jacobs.

The Court heard that on the day in question at around 11:00 hrs Jacobs was in a taxi when the accused approached him and snatched his gold band.

The suspect was later pointed out by the taxi driver whom Jacobs was travelling with on the day in question. Police Prosecutor Bharat Mangru successfully opposed bail on the grounds that Washington was convicted for a similar matter before Magistrate Judy Latchman. Washington was remanded to prison until April 24.
