[www.inewsguyana.com] – An 18 – year – old chain saw operator of Barameter, North West District was granted $100,000 bail by Chief Magistrate Priya Senarine – Beharry when he appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court to answer to a wounding charge.

Orin Simon was not required to plead to the indictable offence, which alleged that on Monday, March 3 at Baramita, he feloniously wounded Neville Carter with the intent to maim, disable or disfigure.

Police Prosecutor Michael Grant told the Court that on the day in question the accused, victim and another friend were at Simon’s home consuming alcohol and repairing a chainsaw.

After a misunderstanding arose between the two men, Carter took the chainsaw and cut the accused in his back. Simon then armed himself with a cutlass and dealt the virtual complainant a chop to his knee.

The Prosecutor did not opposed bail and he further told Court that the victim is presently hospitalized but when he is discharged, he will be facing a wounding charge also.

The matter was transferred to the Matthews Ridge Magistrates’ Court for May 6.
