Bandit nabbed with unlicensed gun, ammo – and cash he stole from minibus driver, passenger

An armed bandit who attacked and robbed a minibus driver and a passenger was nabbed by the Police while fleeing on a bicycle.
Police said the incident occurred around 12:55hrs Monday when mini-bus driver Ameer Karim, 51 years, of Great Diamond, East Bank Demerara; and passenger Trevor Blackett, 41 years, of Mocha, also on the East Bank of Demerara, were attacked and robbed at Providence, by a man armed with a firearm and who had joined the bus at Middle Road, La Penitence.
Police said the vehicle was on the way to Grove, East Bank Demerara, when the perpetrator requested the driver to stop and held up the victims at gunpoint as he exited the vehicle. He took away a total of $8,500 and escaped on a bicycle that was parked in the vicinity along the roadway.
The police responded promptly to the report received and arrested the suspect on the bicycle at the traffic lights at Eccles.
An unlicensed .32 pistol with 3 rounds and the stolen cash were found in his possession. He is in police custody and charges will be made shortly.
