[www.inewsguyana.com] – A six – year – old student of the Parfaite Harmonie Primary School, West Bank Demerara is now the country’s latest road fatality, after he was hit by a speeding car on his way to school on Monday, November 16, 2015.

He has been identified as Keith Adams of Lot 4241 Westminster, Parfaite Harmonie; at the time of the accident, he was walking with two of his school friends on the access road.

The driver of the car – PRR 9325 – has been identified as 37 – year – old Junior Dey of Lot 18 Second Street, Alberttown, Georgetown. Inspector Gavin Mingo told iNews during a telephone interview that Dey is currently in police custody and is expected to be charged shortly.

According to Inspector Mingo, the driver was proceeding south along the eastern side of the Westminster access road, while Adams was walking on the right hand side of the road, going in the same direction as the driver.

Inspector Mingo told iNews that the driver was going at a fast rate of speed when he lost control of the car and collided with the child. He explained that Adams was flung in the air after which the driver drove over his body; he died on the spot.

The car then came to a halt after ending up inside a trench. The driver had his wife and another occupant in the vehicle at the time of the accident. The road carnage continues even as Guyana observes road safety month.
