40-Y-O remanded on trafficking charge

unnamed[www.inewsguyana.com] – Forty year – old Paul Anthony Punch of Charlestown, Georgetown, accused of the possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking, on Tuesday made his first Court appearance before Magistrate Judy Latchman to answer to the offence.

It is alleged that a father of three on October 10, 2015 at Success and Adelaide Street, Charlestown he had in possession 120 grams of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking.

Punch pleaded not guilty to the offence.

According to the Punch’s Attorney for, police ranks went to the home of his client who resides at an apartment building in Charlestown and conducted a search in his room in his presence.

The Attorney further described that his client, was suddenly showed the alleged narcotics, cautioned and arrested with the present offence.

He explained that the drugs could have belonged to anyone else who resides in the said building.

As such he asked for reasonable bail.

However, the Prosecution explained differently. They stated that police, acting on information, went to the residence of Punch and asked him if he had any drugs.

He replied yes and eventually showed them a Fern-Leaf Milk Tin in the corner of his room containing the alleged narcotics.

They explained that the accused under a caution statement told them that he “does a little hustle on and off.”

Magistrate Latchman remanded Punch to prison.

He is set to make his next court appearance on October 30 for reports.
