$30,000 bail for man who allegedly stabbed Cop

[www.inewsguyaan.com] – Twenty – four – year-old Sherwin Benjamin, accused of assaulting a Police Officer while he was off-duty, has been granted $30,000 bail by Chief Magistrate, Ann McLennan .

It is alleged that on October 24, 2014 at the McKenzie Market Tarmac, Linden, Benjamin unlawfully and maliciously wounded Damian Mc Farley.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge on Friday, October 23. His Attorney explained to the court that Benjamin of Lot 232 South Amelia’s Ward, Linden, is an expectant father of his first child, who is due within the next two months.

The Attorney further posited to the court that Benjamin, who owns two cars, which he works as Taxi was initially placed on station bail and has fully cooperated with authorities during their investigations.

The Prosecution did not object to substantial bail and told the Court that on the day in question, Benjamin was at the McKenzie Tarmac, where he approached the virtual complainant and an an argument ensued.

It was during the argument that Benjamin allegedly stabbed the off-duty cop to his chest, causing serious injuries. Bail was granted and he is expected to make his next court appearance at the Linden Magistrate’s Court on November 17.
