Fmr PM’s son sentenced on wounding charge but gets bail pending appeal

[www.inewsguyana.com] – Samuel Hinds Jr. has been sentenced to two months jail for the offense of wounding but was immediately granted $50,000 bail, pending his appeal to the sentence.

The son of former Prime Minister, Sam Hinds, appeared before Magistrate Annette Singh on Friday, October 23, where he was sentenced and fined $10,000 for the abusive behaviour charge.

The 33 – year – old miner was found guilty of unlawful wounding of his sister – in – law, Tenza Lane on February 06 by former Magistrate Geeta Chandan – Edmond.

He was scheduled to be sentenced by the very Magistrate on February 20 but on that same day, Chandan – Edmond was dismissed by the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).

The matter has been tied up in legal battles since until sentencing today. Hinds Jr, of lot 83 Duke Street, Kingston, Georgetown, had accused his teenage sister – in – law of stealing his phone.

On the day in question, February 27, 2014, Hinds and the victim had an argument over the missing cell phone, where he stomped Layne before dragging her on the ground and beating her with a cane. He then brandished a gun, cranked it and threatened to kill her.

  1. The system in guyana may have been alot different if people were calling on the P PP TO ACT EVERY TIME SOMETHING WENT WRONG WITH THE JUSTICE SYSTEM OR ANY OTHER ISSUES FAVING GUYANESE.   2. I’m of the view that this young man WILL spend some jail time for his GUILTY conviction – his lawyer is just stretching out the agony!

Two months jail for all of that plus bail when his case is being appealed.Come on Guyana is too slack and shameful.Compare his actions to someone having some weed in their pocket which I’m not saying is good.But check and see how long they will go to jail.I’m still waiting to see the actions the APNU coalition will take to make the justice system an actual just system.
