$200,000 bail for Minibus Driver accused of killing Pedestrian

[www.inewsguyana.com] – Sixty – two – year old, Neville Carlette, a Minibus Driver, was today placed on $200,000 bail by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine – Beharry after he pleaded not guilty to a cause of death by dangerous driving charge.

Carlette of Prospect, East Bank Demerara, denied that on September 30 at Prospect Public Road, he drove motor vehicle BMM 3699 in a manner dangerous to the public thereby causing the death of Verating Akee.

Representing the defendant was Attorney – at – law, Paul Fung – A – Fat, who told the Court that his his client has been a driver for more than 39 years.

He said on the day in question, his client was driving south on Prospect Public Road, when two other vehicles were on the road. He explained that a minibus pulled out in front of the defendant and he tried to swerve and at that time a pedestrian was running across, when he was hit down.

Meanwhile, Police Prosecutor Michael Grant told the Court that on the day in question around 18:25 hrs the defendant’s vehicle was the only vehicle on the road. The defendant was rushed to the Diamond Diagnostic Center and was pronounce dead on arrival.

Prosecutor Grant did not opposed bail and the matter was transferred to Providence Court for October 24.

  1. 62 years old …driving bus..bet your life on it he never been to driving school..99% certainty he bought his drivers license..he been driving for 39 years…license de cheaper back then..
