[www.inewsguyana.com] – Twenty – year – old Gopaul Seecharran of Murphy Dam, Rosignol Village, West Bank Berbice appeared before Marissa Mittleholzer on Friday, August 21 at the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court where he was remanded on three charges relating to armed robbery.

The incident occurred on August 16 on a West Coast Berbice family, where the wife and husband were chopped. Seecharran was unrepresented and was not required to plea to the charges. The court heard that while being in the company of others and being armed with a gun, he robbed Neeranie Kadir of one gold ring worth $40,000.

The young man is also accused of robbing two sisters – Alisha Kadir and Shaneeza Kadir of a gold chain worth $10,000 and another gold chain with two gold bangles worth $170,000.

Police Prosecutor, Corporal Desiree Pilgrim objected to bail, citing the seriousness of the offence and the fact that the accused may face other charges for wounding the victims during the incident.

He was remanded to prison until September 07 and is expected to reappear at the Blairmont Magistrate Court. Neeraine Kadir, a market Vendor was chopped about her body by three armed bandits early Sunday morning as she and her husband, Abdool Kadir, 47, was preparing to go to the market.

Neeranie was admitted a patient the GPHC while her husband had received medical attention from the Fort Wellington Hospital.

  2. JAILING HIM FOR SUCH A LONG PERIOD WOULD BE A BURDEN ON THE TAXPAYER. I WOULD RECOMMEND TEN YEARS JAIL PLUS TWELVE STROKES WITH THE CAT -O-NINE TAIL.THIS SHOULD MAKE HIM COME TO HIS SENSES.
