[www.inewsguyana.com] – A 19 – year – old male of Durban Backlands, Georgetown, accused of robbing a Chinese national was remanded to prison by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry on Wednesday, April 30.

Matthew Gasper pleaded not guilty to the charge, which alleged that on Saturday, April 19 at Georgetown, being in company of others armed with a gun, he robbed Shaun Yi Yang of one laptop computer, one iPod and a quantity of Digicel and GT&T cellular phone cards together valued $701,000.

Police Prosecutor, Michael Grant told the Court that the virtual complainant (VC) is a businessman and on the day in question after he secured his business place, he was approached by the defendant along with two other unidentified male.

He said the defendant pointed the weapon towards the defendant and together they relieved him of the articles mentioned in the charge. They made good their escape and the matter was reported to the Police.

Attorney – at – Law, Paul Fung – A – Fat represented the defendant and applied for bail. He told the Court that none of the articles were found in his client’s possession nor did he confess to the crime.

However, the Prosecutor objected to bail, citing the seriousness and prevalence of the offence and the case was put off to May 12.
