[www.inewsguyana.com]Nineteen – year – old Shermon Hinds of Soesdyke, East Bank Demerara was placed on $80,000 bail today, December 31 by Magistrate Faith McGusty.

He was charged with the offence of larceny and was not required to plead to the charge. It is alleged that on December 3 at West Ruimveldt, Georgetown the labourer stole from Roy Stanton two Gold Chains, value $80,000.

Police Prosecutor, Seon Blackman told the Court that on the day in question, the defendant and virtual complainant (VC) were passengers in a route 47 minibus, which was heading East on West Ruimveldt Front road.

The Court heard that the minibus stopped to put off a passenger when the accused snatched the victim’s chain and disembarked the vehicle.

The Prosecutor objected to bail, citing the nature of the offence and the penalty it attracts.

He noted that the defendant was positively identified by the VC. Meanwhile, the accused told the Court that his passport is expired and he does not have parents.

The young man pleaded with the Magistrate, as he noted that his grandmother will post his bail. The Magistrate heeded the request and bail was granted. Hinds will make another court appearance on January 20, 2014.
