18 months imprisonment for man who snatched Cell Phone

[www.inewsguyana.com] – A 29 – year – old unemployed man of Grove, East Bank Demerara charged with simple larceny was today (Monday, March 31) sentenced to eighteen months imprisonment by Chief Magistrate, Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.

Sheriff Ahmad pleaded guilty to the offence, particulars of which stated that on March 27 at High Street, Werk-en-Rust, he attempted to rob Jennifer Asharan of a cellular phone valued $62,000.

Police Prosecutor, Michael Grant told the Court that on the day in question, the accused snatched the complainant’s phone. The Court heard that the two had a scuffle, during which the woman screamed and attracted the attention of others.

With the public’s help, the man was arrested. Ahmad told the Court that he was convicted twice for a similar offence. He also apologized for his actions.
