14-Y-O among three charged for possession of M15 Rifle, ammo

[www.inewsguyana.com] – Two businessmen and a juvenile were charged for the unlawful possession of a M15 rifle and matching ammunition before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine – Beharry.

Steve Dean and Elija Dean, along with a 14 – year – old boy pleaded not guilty to the charge, which alleged that on February 11 at Sussex and Saffon Street, Georgetown, they had the weapon and ammunition in their possession without being the holder of a firearm license.

The matter was dealt with in camera, since a juvenile was also charged jointly with the adults. iNews understands that they were represented by Attorney-at-Law, Peter Hugh.

The businessmen were remanded to prison, while the minor remains in custody at the juvenile holding center and the matter was adjourned to March 16.

iNews had reported that when they were caught, the men told police that they are miners and bought the weapon to engage in hunting activities whenever they are in the interior. The discovery was made after police received an anonymous tip.
