[www.inewsguyana.com] – Queenstown resident Ricky Ross is seeking help and has expressed grave concerns over moves by his mother – in – law to pressure his reputed wife Tasleema Mohamed into marrying her male Canadian based cousin so that she can acquire a Canadian Visa.

He alleged that his reputed wife of almost four years was forced into the marriage while she was not in a mental state to make decisions on her own and was unaware of what she was being asked to sign to.

The man related that his 22 – year – old reputed wife was forced into the marriage a few days after she was involved in an accident which rendered her speechless and made her immobile.

Ross further explained that Mohamed went to spend a few days with her parents following the accident. He said that during her stay there all calls to the numbers he had for her was rejected. Ross said when he returned days later for his reputed wife; he was informed by her mother that she did not wish to speak to him.

The man said when his reputed wife and her relatives showed up at his home after the accident for the first time he thought that they had come to bring her home. However, to his surprise while he entertained them, his mother – in – law and other relatives were busy packing the woman’s belongs into garbage bags and even cleared out the salon (attached to the house) he had set up and furnished for Mohamed.

He said when he enquired from the relatives what was going on, he was told that they came for the woman’s belongings. He said that he immediately went onto the veranda and spoke to his wife who held on to his hands and began crying.

According to Ross, she did not say much because of the pain she felt from her mouth but her actions indicated to him that she was not willing to go with her relatives.

The police was then brought into the matter but according to the distraught man, they did not seem too keen to investigate the matter.

Ross said he learnt that Mohamed married her cousin on October 11 and efforts are being made to have her flown out of the country with her cousin (who is now her husband) once the VISA application is approved.

Ross related that since he began exposing what his reputed wife’s relatives have done, they have decided to counter his attempts and have made a report of abuse against him.

The young professional is of the view that the move by the woman’s relatives is in contravention to several laws relating to marriage, citizenship and other clauses within Guyana’s constitution.

He believes Mohamed has now accepted the marriage in an effort to protect her family from the legal consequences that may follow.
