[www.inewsguyana.com] – United States citizen, 53 – year – old Joyce De Cunha, who was allegedly busted with a quantity of cocaine concealed in frozen fish, was today remanded to prison by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.

She pleaded not guilty to the offence, which alleged that on Wednesday, May 28 at Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA), Timehri, East Bank Demerara she had in her possession 3.498 Kilogrammes of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.

Customs Anti Narcotics Unit (CANU) Prosecutor, Oswald Messiah told the Court that the defendant came to Guyana on April 9 and was an outgoing passenger on a Caribbean Airlines flight destined to New York.

Messiah said information was received and on duty officers requested to carry out a search on her luggage.

During questioning, it was revealed that someone called ‘Fine man’ gave her the parcel to drop to a man in New York. The case was transferred to Providence Magistrate’s Court for June 2.
