Taxi driver accused of stealing $500,000 Gold & Diamond bracelet

[www.inewsguyana.com]Taxi driver Gregory Halls of Parfaite Harmony, West Bank Demerara, charged with larceny was today (March 19) placed $200,000 bail by Magistrate Faith McGusty.

The 42 – year – old defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge, which alleged that on March 13 at Water Street, Georgetown, he stole from Badrinauth Seeraj one Gold and Diamond bracelet valued $500,000.

Police Prosecutor, Seon Blackman objected to bail stating that the defendant has similar pending matters before Magistrate Fabayo Azore. The prosecutor also objected to bail based on the seriousness and nature of the offence and the value of the article.  He said the defendant was positively identified by the virtual complainant.

However, Halls denied the allegation stating that he was never identified on any identification parade. He also denied having any pending matters.

Bail was granted and Halls will reappear in Court on April 9.
